Please have Airservices disseminate these aerodromes as ALA points in the official data sets, so users of EFB’s (most pilots now) can toggle these on/off as overlays on the map.

Final comments

Do you have any other feedback or concerns regarding the Draft Airspace Review of Ballina 2022?
You must consider the Airservices document amendment calendar when making major changes to CTAF frequencies published in ERSA, DAPS and Maps. This ensures the changes make the next published chart update(s).

Not many pilots know about AIP SUP and it’s a poor (unsafe) method of disseminating major safety critical changes such as CTAF frequencies in between major chart update cycles.

In the case of the 2206 (June 2022) map updates, the new maps came with the old CTAF frequencies still published which has the possibility of causing mass confusion as some non-local pilots will use the frequencies published on the map, without knowing the SUP exists.

In this case OzRunways were able to edit the source maps to change the frequencies however this is ideally done upstream so all EFB Data service providers have the correct information. Additionally this can cause additional confusion if the SUP is withdrawn in the future and the edited maps are now showing an incorrect frequency.

Please try to minimise use of SUP and NOTAMs for critical data amendments, try to align major changes with the Airservices document calendar so they become active on a major cycle changes and consider the Airservices data cutoff times so the changes actually make it into the new maps.
