Draft AC 139.C-06 v1.0 - Skid resistance of aerodrome pavements
Please provide any comments you may have on draft AC 139.C-06 v1.0, in the comments box below.
Comments on AC 139.C-06 v1.0
General Note: Please ensure that the references to MOS are to the current version and not the previous draft MOS.
"2.3.2..... lose stones"
Typo change to loose stones
"3.1.4 …..testing frequencies that achieve the requirements of the Par 139 MOS, paragraph 6.09 (5)."
These frequencies are not provided in MOS 139 but referenced in ICAO/FAA Doc instead. Can we reference the correct document
"3.3.8 - both directions along the runway"
More detail please – are tests to be conducted in both directions along the same offset or can the return direction be on the opposite side of the runway centreline? (contact us if you need further explanation)
"3.3.12...……….Because of this complication, guidance in the USA (FAA2016) advises not testing the first and last 150-300m of the runway."
Is this 150-300m on or between 0-300? It seems to indicate in the current wording that the portion between 0-150 should be grooved.
"3.3.12......the texture requirements of the Part 139 MOS and be maintained to prevent the build-up of contaminants."
How can the texture be measured in the 150-300 or 0-300 portion of the runway where grooves are already present? Cannot test texture (sand patch) on a grooved surface.
4.3.8 & 4.3.9
Issuing a NOTAM required when:
1 - >100m section below minimum friction
2 - >25% of one runway third below minimum friction
3 - or both?
Provide details on standard NOTAM wording where low friction has been determined. If RCR is relevant please reference this.
"4.4.5 ……...a surfaced that is eroded enough to"
Is there a specific depth a groove is considered compromised (such as 3mmor 50%, as was in the old standard).
