New technologies and innovation survey

Closed 4 Jun 2022

Opened 19 Apr 2022

Overview

The aviation sector is constantly evolving. We’re looking at ways we can be ready to assist the Australian aviation industry when new technologies emerge.

By participating in this survey, you can help us gather information about emerging technologies and other new systems and capabilities we may not know about.

We’re gathering this information to ensure we’re prepared and able to respond to future changes that could affect the way we regulate civil aviation. The aim is to provide timely support to the industry as needed.

We’re particularly interested in information relating to emerging technologies, systems and capabilities you expect to be deployed into the civil aviation environment in the next 3-10 years. We are seeking your feedback under the following 6 themes, depending on where you have an interest:

  • future airspace, including uncrewed traffic management (UTM)
  • future remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) operations, including large RPAS
  • advanced air mobility, including vertiports and eVTOL certification
  • evolved conventional operations (for example, electrification, new propulsion systems, and fuel chemistries)
  • enabling capabilities (for example, autonomy assurance, cybersecurity, additive manufacturing)
  • high altitude operations (above FL600).

Please respond to as many of the themes as you like, depending on your interests.

You'll note that throughout the survey we've listed technologies and capabilities we're already aware of relating to each theme. The aim of this activity is to identify technologies and capabilities we don't yet know about, however feel free to provide information about the technologies and capabilities we have mentioned if you still wish to do so.

Thank you for taking the time to participate.

Please note this survey is separate to our recent engagement with the public on our RPAS/advanced air mobility roadmap document.

A note about privacy

Please contact us if you would like to share information that is commercial in confidence. We will consider whether the information is useful for this activity and, if so, discuss with you how to best manage confidentiality issues.

What happens next

Thank you for sharing your information. Your input will help us plan and prepare for future future innovation.
