CASA published the proposed CAAP 253-02 v2.0 — Passenger Safety Information: Guidelines on content and standard of safety information to be provided to passengers by aircraft operators — on the CASA website from 19 October to 2 November 2018 and invited industry and the public to comment on the proposals outlined. The consultation period has now closed. CASA has reviewed each comment and submission and a summary of the feedback is provided below.

Overview

CASA has produced a new version of Civil Aviation Advisory Publication (CAAP ) 253-02 - Passenger safety information: Guidelines on content and standard of safety information to be provided to passengers by aircraft operators. 

CAAP 253-02, produced under the provisions of section 14 Civil Aviation Order (CAO)  20.11, requires the operator of an aircraft to ensure that all passengers are adequately briefed on safety information applicable to their operation.

Why your views matter

We have made amendments to CAAP 253-02(0) and are seeking feedback from industry and the public before the CAAP is published. Draft version 253-02 v2.0 of this CAAP has the following proposed amendments:

  • The addition of guidance material on the presentation of verbal and printed safety information for passengers on balloon flights
  • The addition of guidance material concerning cabin baggage and PEDs
  • Updated references and minor text and formatting amendments.

What happens next

At the end of the response period for public comment, we will review each comment and submission received through the online response form. We will make all submissions publicly available on the CASA website unless a respondent requests that their submission remain confidential. Information about how we consult and how to make a confidential submission is available on the CASA website.

When the responses to the consultation, for which consent to publish has been granted, are published, we will also publish a summary of consultation (SOC). The SOC will summarise feedback received, describe any intended changes and detail our plans for the CAAP.
