Comments
I am a Private Pilot and held a Lic for the past 50 years, i have owned built and restored a number of aircraft namley a Jodel D9 VH-AME - Thorp T18 VH- TMF , presently own - Vans RV 8 VH- TMN - Cessna 190 VH- BIS. All of the above aircraft are airworthy and in excellent condition, the aircraft have been maintained in an approved workshop operated by LAME Peter Middleton at the Wagga Airport. With the catergory of the aircraft C190 and RV 8, i can as an original builder maintain the RV 8 under the SAAA Maintenance Approval. My C190 which i purchased and imported from the USA in 2012 was assembled and had the SIDS programe completed in Peter Middletons approved workshop and has been maintained up to now in this facility. Due to Peters health he has decided not to continue with his workshop approval but still retain his LAME Lic. I have new 15m x 15m hanger where i store my aircraft, the hanger is fully fitted out with office and storage areas, well lit and clean and tidy. We have available in the facility all calibrated tooling and equipment to maintain all types of private aircraft including Antiques. I would request that CASA allow qualified LAMEs to undertale annanual inspections and reactive maint in facilities such as i have described. I have available all manuals and data relating to both my and other aircraft, and consider we can undertake maint with LAME supervision to the required standard.

3. Can you think of any opportunities that would improve our regulatory system for general aviation maintenance? For example, ways to reduce costs and red tape while maintaining a high safety standard. Please provide detail.

Comments
Cost is now a big issue in having maint undertaken and a number of approved Workshops have ceased trading due to various reasons, and have not been replaced. In this area we have LAMEs available who are prepared to work individual private aircraft under suitable arrangements i facilities such as i described. This would lead to cost savings and i believe no loss of safety standards.
