2. What kind of issues and/or challenges are you currently experiencing in regard to general aviation, and how have they impacted you?

Comments
The fact that casa has farmed our the process of obtaining a foreign license validation to private companies is in total costing me around $10,000.00

3. Can you think of any opportunities that would improve our regulatory system for general aviation maintenance? For example, ways to reduce costs and red tape while maintaining a high safety standard. Please provide detail.

Comments
Having worked in the industry in USA. Canada. South Africa. And the Uk I believe the current casa system is an absolute shambles. The best thing casa can do for the industry is to get rid of the current regulations and adopt the FARs. And not adopt a cross breed between different countries as that’s why we are in this mess in the first place.

Benefits and limitations of international models

1. United States – FAA

a) What would you see as the main benefits in adopting the United States’ model for regulating general aviation maintenance? Please detail.
Ease of maintenance. I am currently an FAA A&P with an Inspection Authorization. For GA we do not need different type ratings or licensing as long as we have the appropriate data available we can do the job. And that’s just one of many many benefits.
b) What could be some potential limitations if Australia adopted the United States’ model for regulating general aviation maintenance? Please detail.
None. As the FARs allow a mechanic to maintain a privately operated aircraft outside of an approved facility. This makes carrying out maintenance a lot easier.

2. New Zealand – CAA

a) What would you see as the main benefits in adopting the New Zealand model for regulating general aviation maintenance? Please detail.
NZ is very similar to the FARs

3. Europe

a) What would you see as the main benefits in adopting the European model for regulating general aviation maintenance? Please detail.
EASA is a joke. It’s supposed to be a European agreement however each country still has its own regulations to comply with

4. Canada

a) What would you see as the main benefits in adopting the Canadian model for regulating general aviation maintenance? Please detail.
Transport Canada is very similar to EASA.

Final Comments

Do you have any further comments or feedback?

Comments
Casa have made it so difficult to get into the industry as a maintainer that we don’t see many apprentices at all. The regulations are a shambles and the fact they tried to adapt parts of different regs made it worse. The best thing casa could do for the ga sector is adopt the FARs. And remove all current regulations. This will ease the stress and cost on maintenance companies to no end and make the industry viable again.
