As the 3rd owner of an experimental aircraft maintenance is an issue as the aircraft uses no standard parts. I have to know the ins and outs yet an unable to sign my own maintenance releases. For example my hydraulic pump is a mercury outboard pump which requires the o ring to be replaced this is not something a LAME has any experience with. This is only 1 of many parts of my aircraft which require specific knowledge. Owner maintenance is a must for these types of aircraft. Canada has the right idea here.

2. What kind of issues and/or challenges are you currently experiencing in regard to general aviation, and how have they impacted you?

Comments
Maintenance of an experimental aircraft. See above.

3. Can you think of any opportunities that would improve our regulatory system for general aviation maintenance? For example, ways to reduce costs and red tape while maintaining a high safety standard. Please provide detail.

Comments
Copy Canada's system it has proven to be just as safe. OWNER Maintenance reduces red tape and has NO impact on safety. Its a no brainer

Benefits and limitations of international models

1. United States – FAA

a) What would you see as the main benefits in adopting the United States’ model for regulating general aviation maintenance? Please detail.
USA's approach is way better than Australia. However the FAA has a charter to support aviation. CASA has a safety first mentality which has the effect of increasing red tape and destroying GA.
b) What could be some potential limitations if Australia adopted the United States’ model for regulating general aviation maintenance? Please detail.
There is No down side only up. USA has a way better system.

2. New Zealand – CAA

a) What would you see as the main benefits in adopting the New Zealand model for regulating general aviation maintenance? Please detail.
NZ is better but Canada has it right re owner maintance.
b) What could be some potential limitations if Australia adopted the New Zealand model for regulating general aviation maintenance? Please detail.
None

3. Europe

a) What would you see as the main benefits in adopting the European model for regulating general aviation maintenance? Please detail.
Europe is also a Nanny state please do not use this model
b) What could be some potential limitations if Australia adopted the European model for regulating general aviation maintenance? Please detail.
Just dont

4. Canada

a) What would you see as the main benefits in adopting the Canadian model for regulating general aviation maintenance? Please detail.
The owner maintenance is the best option for Australia. It has the least red tape and has proven to be just as safe.
b) What could be some potential limitations if Australia adopted the Canadian model for regulating general aviation maintenance? Please detail.
None it has way more up side.

Final Comments

Do you have any further comments or feedback?

Comments
As an aircraft owner we are being buried by red tape and a nanny state gone mad. Stop and adopt a useful set of oversea's rules Canada or USA are best. Thanks for the survey.
