2. What kind of issues and/or challenges are you currently experiencing in regard to general aviation, and how have they impacted you?
Comments
Mandatory hose replacement of five years for low utilisation aircraft.
For example if an aircraft flys between 15 to 20hours annually, hose replacement mandated for hoses only 75 to 100 hrs old.
Inspection of hose in the worst operating scenario in the engine bay is sensible and will point to the need to inspect further.
3. Can you think of any opportunities that would improve our regulatory system for general aviation maintenance? For example, ways to reduce costs and red tape while maintaining a high safety standard. Please provide detail.
Comments
Yes, instead of worksheets where every item is listed and signed of , have a sheet that requires only one signature where the LAME indicates that ALL the items are attended to.
Make available a list of AD’s that are pertinent to each aircraft model so that compliance can be assured without wading through a miriad of documents.
Benefits and limitations of international models
1. United States – FAA
a) What would you see as the main benefits in adopting the United States’ model for regulating general aviation maintenance? Please detail.
We do not need to reinvent the wheel.
The vast majority of aircraft operated in GA are of US manufacture and adopting the US model makes sense.
2. New Zealand – CAA
a) What would you see as the main benefits in adopting the New Zealand model for regulating general aviation maintenance? Please detail.
NZ model is very close to the US FAA model and to ensure commonality between the Tasman groups would be a benefit for both NZ and Australia.
3. Europe
a) What would you see as the main benefits in adopting the European model for regulating general aviation maintenance? Please detail.
Too complicated and bureaucratic.
The US has a vast GA , Europe not so much.
b) What could be some potential limitations if Australia adopted the European model for regulating general aviation maintenance? Please detail.
Not in accordance with the majority of aircraft manufactured in the US.as
4. Canada
a) What would you see as the main benefits in adopting the Canadian model for regulating general aviation maintenance? Please detail.
Stick to the major GA operator, the US., so don’t reinvent the wheel
b) What could be some potential limitations if Australia adopted the Canadian model for regulating general aviation maintenance? Please detail.
More costly than the FAA, US, NZ model

3. Based on your experience working with international regulations, what do you consider to be the benefits of the maintenance regulations for general aviation in that country? Please detail.
Comments
Not tied to outdated or non existant OEM requirements
Access to standard FAA repair procedures no requirement for CAR 35 for simple repairs.
Final Comments
Do you have any further comments or feedback?
Comments
Unless aircraft maintenance costs are reduced, we will, see more and more aircraft pushed to the fence and GA collapsing to,the detriment of aviation generally and a Greta loss to recreational and out back communities
