2. What kind of issues and/or challenges are you currently experiencing in regard to general aviation, and how have they impacted you?
Comments
Lack of availability of LAMEs willing to work on less common aircraft (fleet of warbirds) and those who do charge heavily.
The pilot mindset of “its broken, send it to maintenance” where I believe a pilot should be trained to trouble shoot and know how to fix things.
Maintenance organisations being short staffed means things have a chance of being overlooked such as screws, panels and wiring.
Benefits and limitations of international models
1. United States – FAA
a) What would you see as the main benefits in adopting the United States’ model for regulating general aviation maintenance? Please detail.
Flexibility to not require an organisation.
b) What could be some potential limitations if Australia adopted the United States’ model for regulating general aviation maintenance? Please detail.
Generic maintenance schedule may be too generic and more detail is often better.
2. New Zealand – CAA
a) What would you see as the main benefits in adopting the New Zealand model for regulating general aviation maintenance? Please detail.
Pilots being able to perform maintenance. Maintenance organisational approval not required for all aircraft.
b) What could be some potential limitations if Australia adopted the New Zealand model for regulating general aviation maintenance? Please detail.
Maintenance organisational approval for adventure flights
3. Europe
a) What would you see as the main benefits in adopting the European model for regulating general aviation maintenance? Please detail.
Identifying no one approach can solve every issue and keep all aircraft flying. Using rules only when needed.
4. Canada
a) What would you see as the main benefits in adopting the Canadian model for regulating general aviation maintenance? Please detail.
Secondary tasks not requiring LAME approvals, LAME can do everything.

Comments
I believe that GA pilots would benefit from some form of basic aircraft maintenance included in the flight training syllabus. Not only will it increase their knowledge of pre flight inspections, what is normal, what isn’t, but if they are stranded while remote, some experience in maintenance may be able to save them.
