Introduction of proposed safety standard - community service flights

The proposal introduces minimum CSF pilot experience, licensing and medical requirements, requirement of flights at night to be conducted using instrument procedures instead of visual procedures and requires slightly enhanced aircraft maintenance requirements, in line with other operations within Australia involving similar participants.

While I am not CSF pilot I believe it is of the upmost importance that CSF be allowed to continue to operate as they currently are. As with even a slight increase in regulation many participants will drop out as it is simply “too hard”. With would be especially true of any increase in maintenance regulation as private aircraft operators will simply and immediately refuse to pay sums required to maintain their aircraft at the increased level. Similar effects may also occur in relation to the other proposed changes such as implementing minimum hours and increased standards. Overall an increase in regulation will have a severely affect the vital work these charities undertake.
