Introduction of proposed safety standard - community service flights

The proposal introduces minimum CSF pilot experience, licensing and medical requirements, requirement of flights at night to be conducted using instrument procedures instead of visual procedures and requires slightly enhanced aircraft maintenance requirements, in line with other operations within Australia involving similar participants.

I am the CEO/Director of a national charity Thread Together Limited. I am also a holder of a PPL. Recently I supported a school in Trundle NSW by taking new clothes and toys to every student in the school. This was not a mercy flight nor was it essential that we went there by air (though it was much more convenient and would likely be the way we could do more for more people living away from relevant services. We also will be partnering services from Royal Far West, using the lure of new clothes for parents and children to attract children to the travelling medical services provided by RFW. I flew VFR as I am not yet endorsed further. I do support the idea that perhaps IFR is required for night time flights as it was difficult to pinpoint a dusty outback runway even during day.
